Youth Facilitator Training

WKGAN is very excited to be organizing a youth program supported by BCCIC and partnering with OzGreen and their YOUth LEADing the World program to offer facilitator training in Nelson Feb 9 – 11. This facilitation training is for all folks 12 and older, with an invitation for adults to join in so that they can hold a supportive role for the youth leaders. Although there is a fee for training, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

UPDATE:

Plans are developing beautifully for the YOUth LEADing the World facilitator training that is happening this coming 9 to 11 February in Nelson. One important update is that the facilitation training is now also being offered online!

There are people from around the globe joining in – from Asia, Brazil, North America … now location, cost of travel etc is not a barrier.

This facilitator training is for all people 12 years on up, adults included! It is important that youth have adults standing with them, supporting them.

What You will learn in the Facilitation Training:

● the ability to create change in your own community and learn how to help others to

do the same.

● the skills to run a Youth Leading the World congress in your school or community

and spread the knowledge and skills to a wider audience.

● how to use opportunities like the training to meet and connect with other young

people who are passionate about making a positive impact on the environment and

their communities.

Engaging participants in designing locally relevant systems for follow-up support as they implement their action plans is a critical success factor for YLTW. The process for doing this is built into the YLTW Congress. In Nelson BC one of the action plans from the YLTW 2012 Congress was a project called “Youth for Seven Generations” that focused on the Keep Jumbo Wild movement. On February 17th, 2013 Youth for Seven Generations offered a day of artistic expression for children, youth and adults to raise awareness around the current, long-standing issue of the proposed Jumbo Glacier Resort. The Goal was to shine light on the love for Jumbo as it is now among the youth. Using art as a vessel they heightened awareness in the community with a day of celebration. They offered a democratic art showcase for the general public, where they voted on their favorite art pieces as well enjoyed spoken word, live music and more from local talents throughout the day and into the night.

Mike and Dan Host BC2030 Meeting

Dan and Mike presented information on last years community round tables, presented the “Invisible Mosaic” – highlighting local community groups and the SDG areas that they are working on. Then they introduced the current focus on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, leading some lively conversation with the group
