Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is a non-profit international development agency, working in Asia and Africa to find sustainable solutions to the complex problems causing global poverty. AKFC concentrates on a number of specific development challenges in health, education, rural development and civil society. In Canada, AKFC raises funds, builds partnerships with Canadian institutions, and promotes discussion and learning on international development issues. Established in 1980, AKFC is a registered Canadian charity and an agency of the worldwide Aga Khan Development Network.
Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is recruiting dynamic, engaged, and passionate individuals to be part of our Volunteer Speaker Bureau. The Speaker Bureau is a group of dedicated volunteers from across Canada that promotes discussion and learning on global issues and inspires Canadians to get involved in international development. Development Champions will deliver presentations in their communities across Canada to raise awareness of international development and the impact of Canadian-supported projects overseas. The Champion Program provides a unique opportunity to expand your professional networks while fostering meaningful conversations on the importance of Canada’s international development efforts.
Successful applicants will be required to attend a four day training session in Ottawa from September 22 – 25, 2016. The training will help Champions translate their own knowledge and personal experiences into compelling narratives through the transformative power of storytelling. A series of interactive workshops will explore current challenges in international development; identify the global issues that resonate with Canadian
audiences; and explore public speaking styles and strategies to connect with a range of audiences. There will also be an opportunity for each Champion to develop a compelling and dynamic story and presentation based on their own interests and experience. Travel and accommodation expenses from within Canada to Ottawa will be covered by AKFC.
Champions will be professionals who intend to reside in Canada over the next three years and who possess the

development and the important role Canada plays in the developing world
- In-depth understanding of key issues, trends and debates in international development
