The Sustainable Development Goals tour rolls on though Vancouver Island

The BCCIC Sustainable Development Goals tour rolls on with the latest leg taking us to Vancouver Island. The tour maintained its focus on learning how BC civil society organisations are already contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and what opportunities for greater collaboration and networking exist within the sector.  Roundtable meetings were held in Victoria, Nanaimo and Comox Valley. Turnout was high and so was the energy and enthusiasm for further collaboration between non-profits working on the Sustainable Development Goals. Discussion focused on why the SDG’s mattered, the goals that local groups were already working on, and how the SDGs could be an opportunity for future collaboration. Many participants pointed to the existence of an ‘invisible mosaic’ of work taking place in their community with the combined efforts of local groups covering every single SDG. While the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals are ambitious and will require a transformative shift, this mosaic led many in the meetings to feel that the shift was already taking place and could be deepened by greater awareness, support, and collaboration.
