Tamara Baldwin is currently the Associate Director for the Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE) for the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia. This position builds upon 15 years of experience in institutions of higher education with cross-cutting portfolios of student development, community engagement and experiential education. Through this work, she collaborates with a number of community organizations on an on-going basis primarily in Eastern Africa, Southern Africa, Mexico, Costa Rica and Bolivia. Tamara has developed an extensive background in strategic planning, resource management, curriculum development, assessment and facilitation.
Tamara holds a M.Sc. from the University of Birmingham in Poverty Reduction and Development Management and has engaged with numerous community based poverty alleviation projects internationally and domestically. Tamara has a particular interest in the ethics of engagement and was an implementing partner on a study and web based guide on the “Ethics of International Engagement and Service Learning” (EIESL – http://ethicsofisl.ubc.ca/) and has recently authored a couple of additional pieces that build on this thinking.
