Reducing the Gender Gap in Muslim Societies: the Case of Pakistan

Three speakers will present a survey of the results of the World Economic Forum’s 2010 Global Gender Gap Report. The speakers will explain what a Gender Gap is and discuss the four elements on which the gap is based. A survey of the results will be presented for different regions of the globe and the speakers will focus on Muslim majority societies, which generally have very large gender gaps. The speakers will also discuss some of the reasons behind high gender gaps in Muslim societies and ways to reduce these gaps. The efforts of the Maria-Helene Foundation to reduce Pakistan’s Gender Gap will be described.
