Emerging Leaders Gathering

Where does one go to learn about community? How do we build and strengthen communities? Is that a priority in our lives? Why or why not? Is community building an end or a means? In the midst of my pondering, this arrived in my inbox:

Emerging Leaders Gathering 100 Mile House, Educo Adventure School
August 21-August 23 2010

Communities can become stronger by supporting emerging leaders— who are passionate, interested, creative and critical thinkers — this is just what is needed to tackle the complexities communities face. Connected and emergent leaders are key to fostering active and engaged communities.

We would like to:
● Create a framework for young adults interested in community development and capacity building to gather for learning events;
● Explore the emergent powers of social media to foster network development and support distributed leadership;
● Make the design of this regional process transparent and available to other regions to utilize and alter following open source design principals; and,
● Link regional networks into a broader, self-organizing provincial network.

Accommodation is a mix of camping and cabins. Tenters can arrive as early as the afternoon of Friday August 20th. Cabins become available on Saturday August 21st. Participants will need to provide their own tenting gear or their own bedding (for cabins).

The Gathering begins from Saturday afternoon starting with a camp open house from 12-3 pm and continue through Monday morning. Meals will be provided starting with lunch on Saturday through to breakfast on Monday.

We will be learning and exploring through experiential education, interactive activities, shared experiences from those attending, building relationships and networks.

There will be no fee for participants for this event and travel support is possible.
