Development Buzzed!

There's nothing quite like being surrounded by drinks, tortilla chips, and 70 of your closest international developmentally-minded friends. And there were also speakers to get us thinking about something other than the weekend...

Robyn from the Justice Education Society talked about the support being offered to the justice system in Ethiopia. This was really interesting to hear. I don't know about you, but it isn't often that I hear institutional capacity-building being evoked outside of policy papers. Very cool.
Eric spoke on Sustainable Cities' work to... well, develop sustainable cities - and he really wants you to know about their International Youth Internship Program. According to Eric, 650 people moved to cities during the span of his presentation (about 10 minutes) all over the world. That raises so many questions on how to make sure that these new urban people, and the old urban people too, of course, figure out how to treat the land and each other.
And Christian from Engineers without Borders wants us all to start running, at least for the Run to End Poverty in June. I don't know about that, Christian, but I'd be happy to come watch!

I know, you're sad you missed this International Development Drinks! Don't worry, we'll be back in May! Videos are forthcoming here! Also, enjoy photos!

congratulations!

Kudos to BCCIC staff for organizing another successful evening of development drinks. Sorry I missed it and will try and make the next one.
