Vancouver – April 22nd, 2016 – Are you a young person with a passion for global affairs? Have you always wanted to make the world a better place and you agree with the mission of the British Columbia Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC). We are putting out a call for youth with roots in British Columbia to step forward and be a delegate.
You will get a chance at interfacing with the Canadian government in a high level ministerial context in the very near future. We don’t care if you have lots of experience or very little experience, or how you identify yourself other than as a youth and that in your mind your home place is British Columbia. The subject matter you will be talking about is global affairs and Canada’s role in the world when it comes to sustainable development. All applications, in any format, are welcome because the delegate will be selected by youth based on their own criteria. In other words think and act and apply like a youth knowing that youth will be selecting the appropriate candidate. Drop all notions of how you might traditionally be selected. That is right, your application will be vetted and the delegate selection will be done by your peers. So be creative, know what values your peers might be thinking about and be brave. Trust that young people today are aware of diversity, aware of inclusion, aware of aboriginal issues in Canada and aware of providing opportunity for non-traditional approaches for youth involvement. In other words, we don’t know what is going to happen with this delegate selection process because we are throwing it entirely into the hands of young people. Also know that opportunities like this are rare and so you may have to compete with other equally creative minds. We know you are out there. You don’t have to be a member of the BCCIC to be a delegate but hey, we are so cool that opportunities like this do come up when you are a member so maybe you should just join anyway either now or later.
To qualify to apply you must meet the government of Canada’s criteria of being between the ages of 18-30 inclusive and be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.
How should you apply? That is up to you and your creative mind but our deadline is tight. Yep, so tight you only have this weekend. So write a letter, write an e-mail or send us a full production video if you think you have time. Do whatever you like, knowing that by Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. we need your effort to land in our “inbox” so a group of your peers can decide who the two people from BC will be. If you cannot do this yourself but you know someone who might want to apply…you know what to do… pass the message along using whatever medium you can including Facebook, Twitter, e-mail or your horse and buggy.
Interested youth are asked to step forward by emailing Michael Simpson at email@example.com
