BCCIC Chapter Assistant

If you are interested in international development, want an opportunity to regularly network with NGO professionals and have strong communications skills, this is the volunteer position for you! As part of the BC Council for International Cooperation’s internship program we are looking for a Chapter Assistant.

Tasks:

  • Liaise with BCCIC’s regional Chapters in Kelowna, Victoria, Comox Valley and Nelson to provide necessary information and support Chapter programming and operations.
  • Follow-up with Chapters on their evaluation and activity reporting requirements.
  • Track Chapter event and coordinator expenditures.
  • Develop information tools and knowledge tool kits that Chapters can use to strengthen their internal and external operations.
  • Carry out research to improve Chapter performance and coordination between BCCIC and Chapters..
  • Carry research on behalf of Chapters including the development of online surveys for identifying workshop topics in Chapter regions.
  • Organize online and in-person inter-Chapter meeting to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing and peer learning.
  • Support Chapters interested in the BC2030 initiative which is aimed at raising awareness and promoting public engagement in relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals advantageous.

Qualifications:

  • Confident and outgoing, comfortable speaking with BCCIC Chapter members in-person and over the phone/Skype.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Comfortable working with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Detail orientated.
  • Research skills and experience including reviewing and synthesizing existing research reports and conducting in-person and over-the-phone interviews.
  • Experience working with online conference calling technology – Skype, TELUS business connect, Google Hangouts etc.
  • Graphic design skills highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals advantageous.

Duration:

BCCIC is looking for a qualified volunteer intern available starting the first week of June who can dedicate at least 16 hours (2 days) a week June – December 2017 to carry out the above responsibilities. This time period can be extended based on performance and mutual agreement between the candidate and BCCIC.

The selected candidate will work directly with the Program Officer at the Vancouver BCCIC Office and carry out their tasks in-office. Some flexibility may be negotiated.
